HexEditor opens any file and shows it the way a hex editor should: bytes on the left, text on the right, and the address you are standing on always within reach.
WHY HEXEDITOR
- Opens anything. Applications, disk images, archives, save files, a multi-gigabyte binary — the file type never matters. Files are opened with memory mapping, so a large file appears immediately instead of being pulled into memory first, and the contents are loaded only when you actually start editing.
- Hex and text, side by side. The text column has its own light background, so one glance is enough to tell which side you are reading. Multi-byte characters show as dots there — the bytes are still there in the hex column.
- Copy what you are looking at. Click the leftmost offset column to select the whole line and copy its start address — or copy the selected bytes as hex, as plain text, as a C array, or as Base64.
- One window per file. Drag files straight into the window, open several at once, and jump back to any of them from Open Recent.
FINDING THINGS
- Hex patterns with wildcards: ?? matches any byte, 1? and ?F match half a byte. Write 0A FF 1? ?? and you will still find the bytes even when one of them is unknown.
- Text search in ASCII, UTF-8 and Latin-1, with an optional case-insensitive mode. For multi-byte encodings the app tells you why folding is not offered instead of quietly returning wrong matches.
- Search by number instead of by bytes: type an integer or a floating-point value, choose signed or unsigned, a width of 8/16/32/64 bits, and big-endian or little-endian. This is how you track down a value in a save file or a float inside a binary.
- Find All lists every match below the grid — number, offset, bytes, text and length — and marks them all in the grid. Click any row to jump there, press Return for the next match and Shift-Return for the previous one, or use ⌘L to jump straight to an offset (decimal or hex) or a line number.
CHANGING BYTES
- Type over bytes at the cursor, insert new ones, or delete them. Each change is complete and undoable, and a group of changes is registered as a single undo step, so one ⌘Z restores everything.
- Replace the current match, or replace all of them at once. Before anything is written you get a preview: how many matches will be replaced, and exactly how the file size will change — or that it will not change at all.
- A change that is expensive on a large file asks for confirmation first and shows progress while it runs.
BUILT TO BE TRUSTED
- No accounts, no analytics, no data collection of any kind. The app itself makes no network requests; purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by the App Store. Everything else happens on your Mac, and your files never leave it.
- Interface in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Japanese, switchable in Settings.
- Monospaced digits, zebra-striped rows, and a selection that stays readable on both the hex and the text side.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
- Premium features are available as a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription, or a one-time purchase (lifetime).
- Monthly: the first month is free for new subscribers (one free trial per Apple Account). After the trial it renews monthly. Cancel anytime in the App Store.
- Yearly: renews yearly. Cancel anytime in the App Store.
- Lifetime: pay once, keep it forever. It does not renew.
- Prices and currency are shown by the App Store for your region — the current price is always the one in the purchase panel or on the App Store page.
- Cancelling a trial or a subscription keeps your access until the paid period ends.
