HexEditor Support
Something not working, or a question the app does not answer? The notes below cover the usual cases — and there is an email address at the bottom for everything else.
Common questions
What do I need to run it?
macOS 14.6 or later. The app is universal: it runs natively on Apple silicon and on Intel Macs. There is nothing else to install.
Does the app ever connect to the internet?
The app itself makes no network requests, so nothing you open is ever sent anywhere. The only network traffic is what the App Store handles for purchases and subscriptions — that is between you and Apple. See the privacy policy for the full detail.
How do I search for a byte I only partly know?
Use wildcards in the hex pattern: ?? matches any byte, while 1? and ?F match half a byte. 0A FF 1? ?? finds the sequence even when one byte is unknown.
Can I search for a number instead of a byte pattern?
Yes. Enter an integer or a floating-point value and choose signed or unsigned, a width of 8/16/32/64 bits, and big-endian or little-endian. This is the way to track a value inside a save file or a float inside a binary.
How do I undo a replace-all?
One ⌘Z. A group of changes is registered as a single undo step, so a single undo restores the whole batch.
Will replacing bytes change the file size?
You are told before anything is written: how many matches will be replaced, and exactly how the file size will change — or that it will not change at all.
Can I copy the addresses on the left?
Yes — that column is part of the selection model. Click the leftmost offset column to select that whole line and copy its start address, or press ⇧⌘C to copy the offset of every line in the selection.
Is there a version in my language?
The interface ships in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Japanese, and you can switch language in Settings.
